It goes without saying there are endless, unspoiled beaches on the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket Sound shores on which to relax and play. But don’t miss out on our countdown of essential Cape Cod experiences.
This week’s #8 on the countdown is: Hike The National Seashore
The 68.1 square miles of National Seashore is the best place to find a remarkable nature walk with dozens of trails to choose from, and they’re all free. Founded in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, this set of preserved Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens is filled with over 450 species of animals and 800 species of plants.
Nature enthusiasts from around the world love to walk the boardwalk paths of the Nauset Marsh Trail, Red Maple Swamp or Atlantic White Cedar Swamp. Or the easy-going Buttonbush Trail which has accessibility for the vision impaired. For a hardier hike try the Pamet Area or Great Island trails.
